If you’re like me, you probably weren’t exactly sure how to get started trading.  It’s tough. There’s so much noise out there.  And, like me, you spent a lot of time and money chasing empty promises. The moment when I realized that simple techniques really work on real markets was when I finally realized my true enlightenment.

Trading, regardless of the length of time you’ve been doing it, will bring challenging moments. It is in these difficult times that we reveal our true character. We must be cautious not to make impulsive decisions in attempts to regain what we lost due to market fluctuations. Such actions include taking on excessive risk, trading under unfavorable circumstances, and using complex tactics to outsmart the market. If not mindful, these negative behaviors can lead us into a downward spiral during inevitable downturns.

Methodology: You need a methodology that’s conceptually correct. Because trading is all about capturing trends, you need a methodology that follows trends. Further, since following a more complex methodology is much more difficult, it must be simple and easy to follow.

Money Management: Trading is unfair, so you must limit losses while still allowing for unlimited gains-and not just the opposite! You must be willing to get out when you’re wrong, and stay the course when you’re right.

Mind: A final note, You need to accept that you cannot control the markets. You need to accept that you have no control over them. The best methodology in the world is useless if you do not have the right mentality to follow it. Trading only when conditions are conducive, planning the trade, and trading the plan will allow you to overcome the internal battle.
